I attended yesterday a meeting led by Alvaro Fischer from his post as president of Fundación Chile , plus several other sponsors, to discuss the best way to bring advanced connectivity Chile to quicken the stride toward a digital society we want to access.
I hear on that occasion in the real world capital of astronomy that we are forming, with massive (> U.S. $ 5,500 million) volumes Multi-investment consortia are being installed in Chile, such as Alma project of 66 radio telescopes ( link).
This will require huge data storage capacity, processing capabilities, communications and human capital, easy access for Chilean professionals.
The government intends that some of these capabilities can be used locally to benefit the country. I got to imagine a San Pedro de Atacama Valley, paradise of development projects based on digital capabilities.
The main speakers of this matter were Mónica Rubio, Director of Astronomy of CONICYT and Eduardo Vera, Executive Director of the National Laboratory of High Performance Computing. Several international visits
